Position: Board Member
Authority and Responsibility: The Board of Directors is the legal authority for the Supervised Visitation Network. As a member of the Board, a director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization.
Requirements of Board Membership include:
- Commitment to the work of the organization
- Knowledge and skills in one or more area of Board governance: policy, finance, programs, personnel and advocacy
- Willingness to serve on and Chair committees
- Virtual attendance at bi-monthly board meetings
- Virtual attendance at meetings of assigned committees
- Attendance at the Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting
- Support of and participation in fundraising events
- A commitment to support the Supervised Visitation Network
Requirements for Nomination
Any candidate for Director shall meet the following qualifications:
- Must be a current member of SVN and have been a member for at least two years.
- Must have had at least a year of direct experience in providing supervised visitation services or in administration of a supervised visitation program.
- Must agree to the Expectations and Responsibilities of Members of the Board of Directors which each elected Board member signs.
- Agree to follow and support the SVN Standards, Guidelines, and Code of Ethics and Agree they may be removed from office after three (3) missed meetings.
Term: Directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting. Directors serve for a 3-year term and may be re-elected once.
General Duties: A Director is fully informed on organizational matters, and participates in the Board’s deliberations and decisions in matters of policy, finance, programs, personnel and advocacy
The Director must:
- Approve and monitor all Board policies and by-laws
- Review the bylaws and policy manual and recommend changes to the membership
- Review the Board’s structure, approve changes and prepare necessary bylaw amendments
- Participate in the development of the Supervised Visitation Network’s organizational plan and annual review
- Approve the Supervised Visitation Network’s budget
- Approve the hiring and/or release of the Executive Director, including the Executive Director’s employment contract
- Support and participate in evaluating the Executive Director
- Assist in developing positive relations among the Board, committees, staff members and the community to enhance the Supervised Visitation Network.
